About the Alzheimer's Association
Alzheimer's disease is not a natural part of aging, nor is it limited to the elderly. It is a progressive, degenerative diseasethat attacks the brain and results in impaired memory, thinking and behavior. It affects people mainly over age 65 but can affect people much younger. It is the fourth leading killer of adults with over four million victims in the US. There is no known cause or cure, and its victims can linger for over twenty years. Alzheimer's disease is an emotional and financial nightmare for families.
The Alzheimer's Association is the national health organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all persons affected by Alzheimer's disease and related disorders through comprehensive educational programs, compassionate services, access to resources and support for research.
The Alzheimer's Association, Connecticut Chapter is part of a network of over 81 chapters across the country.
Our main administrative and program office is located in Kensington.
We maintain a local presence in the community through the regional offices.
There are regional offices in Hamden, Norwalk, Norwich and Waterbury.
There are a total of five regions throughout the state, each of which has a Regional Program Coordinator.
The Regional Program Coordinator provides our core services to the community including family caregivers and individuals with dementia; and facilitates trainings to health care professionals.
In addition to the main Board of Directors each region may have its own volunteer Advisory Councils and Committees that assists the Chapter in carrying out its mission.
